Building in the Hollis Hills began before World War II and continued through the 1950s. About 1,200 homes are located in this community, which is located between Grand Central Parkway and 77th Avenue, and between Hollis Hills Terrace and Springfield Boulevard. This primarily upper middle-class neighborhood attracts a number of families with young children because is served by PS 188 elementary school, one of the top elementary schools in New York City.
Cunningham Park is within walking distance to the west, and Alley Pond Park is nearby to the east. Cunningham Park covers 358 acres and offers tennis courts, baseball fields, bocci courts, picnic areas, playgrounds, a concert oval, summer camp programs, and annual performances by the Big Apple Circus. With 654 acres, Alley Pond Park is home to the Alley Pond Environmental Center, along with baseball and football fields, tennis and handball courts, and wooded trails.
A number of houses of worship are located here, including American Martyrs Catholic Church and school, Hollis Hills Jewish Center, a Lutheran church, and a Lubavich center. The community has a strong civic association, which sponsors an annual dinner dance.
Home prices range from $625,000 and up. Hollis Hills is served by express buses to Manhattan, local buses to the subway, as well as the Long Island Rail Road within a short driving distance.
