Jamaica Estates offers a wide variety of detached, single-family homes, from older, smaller frame homes to distinctive English Tudor "mini-castles." Many new homes have been built on teardown sites, taking advantage of the larger lots in this area. Prices range from $700,000 for small colonials on the eastern end, up to $2 million for newer, larger homes.
The neighborhood is between Union Turnpike and Hillside Avenue, and between Utopia Parkway and 188th Street. Cunningham Park is on the eastern end of Jamaica Estates, offering 358 acres with baseball fields, tennis and bocci courts, a concert oval, recreational programs, and annual performances by the Big Apple Circus. There are a number of houses of worship in the neighborhoods, including Albanian, Jewish Orthodox, and catholic. Shopping is available along Union Turnpike, with a number of kosher stores opening up.
Most of Jamaica Estates is zoned for Community School District 26, but some areas attend District 29. The F subway train terminates at the southern tip of Jamaica Estates, and buses are available from 188th Street and Hillside Avenue.
