Queens, like all of New York City, is well-served by public transportation. Subway service is available in most of southwestern Queens, while the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) provides commuter rail service to the residential areas of northeastern Queens.
The # 7 subway train, dubbed the International Express because of the wide variety of ethnicities in the neighborhoods it serves, runs from Flushing into Manhattan, terminating at Times Square. The F train provides service to Manhattan from the Jamaica Estates and Fresh Meadows area.
On the LIRR, the Port Washington lines serve the Bayside, Little Neck, Douglaston, Whitestone, and Flushing neighborhoods, while Jamaica Estates, Fresh Meadows, Hollis Hills and Holliswoods neighborhoods are served by the Hempstead Branch.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) provides a wealth of information on transit options, including maps, fares, schedules, and more.
